Please know we are doing everything we can to start school in a safe environment as soon as possible. Challenges with wildfire smoke, COVID-19 and technology deployment are being met head on by our staff district-wide, and we are continually encouraged by our community.
The district will continue to monitor the air quality index throughout each day, and no matter what the weather holds for Friday, we are committed to starting school no later than Monday, September 21, via in-person or full remote district-wide. We are holding out hope that we can begin Friday, but If the air quality remains unhealthy, we will deliver instruction in a full remote learning environment for all students on Monday. If it improves to safe levels, we will deliver in-person instruction as planned. To be clear, if the air quality remains unhealthy and we deliver instruction remotely on Monday, it will not be permanent.
Chromebook Pickup Scheduled for Thursday
Families who have not yet picked up student chromebooks will receive email communication from their child’s principal today outlining times to come to the school for pickup Thursday. If you did not receive this communication please check your “junk” or “spam” folders in your email or call your child’s school. Families are strongly encouraged to pickup their child(ren)’s Chromebook during the scheduled time slots Thursday. School staff have worked hard to prepare for technology deployment so that we are prepared for any learning option on Monday,
Kindergarten Start of School Reminder
Full-day Kindergarten includes participation in WaKIDS, a process for building partnerships with Kindergarteners and their families. An important component of WaKIDS is the parent conference to start the school year. Our teachers are doing their best to reschedule these conferences and have them completed within the first three days of school. Regardless of the Mead School District’s official start date, all kindergarten students will begin on the fourth day. For example, if school starts Monday for Grades 1-12, Kindergarten’s first day would be Thursday after completing conferences with all families on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Hot Spot Request
The District has procured a limited number of hot spots available to families in need of internet access for remote learning. Please fill out the survey here to see if you qualify. Usage time on the hot spots is monitored by the District as they are to be used during school hours. If used frequently outside of school hours, the district will request a return of the device.
Thank you for all that you are doing to help us get this school year started. The information has been updated daily, and we know that requires a lot of patience and understanding from all of you. We sincerely appreciate that, together we will get through this!
